Another amazing read from this dynamic duo known of Tiffant and Robert Freund a.k.a Tiffany Roberts. This story was a captivating romance between a human woman named Macy falling in love with a Kraken (or Cecalelia) Wanderer known as Jax and him in return taking her as his mate. This is yet another beautiful story of love knowing no bounds that I believe this duo captures in their books brilliant in both writing and description in settings as well as characters.
This book gives you an amazing cast of characters from both the main and background characters and a lovely told story to boot. You're in no way left with the idea that this is where it should end but where it begins. You'll be left wanting to hear more about this world and it's characters.
It actually kind of reminds of Ruby Dixons Ice Barbarians series in the concept of coming upon the unknown do to unforseen circumstances and having to rely heavily on this unknown entity. The result being that love can come from out of nowhere and from the strangest places of between land and sea and through unique meetings like having to be rescued. In this case both Macy and Jax gained each other out of the unforseen meeting. They both gained a friend and a lover that they could rely on to both protect and be there for them and are the starting bridge between their species. I can honestly say I can't wait for the next installment in this series with Arkon and Aymee.

Treasure of the Abyss The Kraken Book 1 eBook Tiffany Roberts Cameron Kamenicky Cissell Ink Reviews
Holy wow, this book worked for me. It hit all my favorite tropes AND THEN SOME. Abandoned facility no one quite knows what to do with? CHECK. A secret species who are hovering on the brink of extinction and have a little pent up aggression to get out? CHECK. Clueless human who gets caught up in a situation not of her making? CHECCCCKKKK!
Seriously, though. I love when misfits find one another and the things that were weird or outlandish about them end up being the thing that draws them together. Also, abandoned facilities slowly moldering into nothingness. Yessssss.
So. Macy and Jax. She's sort of resigned herself to life with a dude who doesn't much do it for her. He's a restless wanderer who's SURE there's more out there. Macy's imprisonment is probably the best thing that could have happened to her. For all she had her freedom ripped away from her, meeting Jax helped her figure out what she wanted out of life. And that thing she wanted wasn't a tepid relationship with a man she considers a friend more than a life-partner.
I love characters who have extreme physical differences (tentacles!) and somehow manage to make it all work despite that. Like I said, Macy and Jax worked for me and I am SO DOWN to read the rest of this series now.

I want to like this book. The male characters are great--a lot of sympathy, compassion, and cooperation. Even the antagonist, Dracchus, comes out looking good in his desire to serve his community. There is an emotional intelligence running through the book that makes it a leisurely romp and a pleasure because there are no "ugh THIS guy" moments. However, there are a lot of things that I don't like in these books a strange disconnect to historical context for the kraken, way more insecurity issues that I care about, and an anthropocentric approach to worldbuilding. The big twist that the kraken are genetically-modified humans with a history of oppression is predictable, and takes away from the erotic potential of the truly alien, because ~we are all the same~ which is ultimately not what I was looking for.
Macy was having a rough day. She gathers her courage to face a proposal from a childhood friend, Camrin, on a boat, in the ocean...the same ocean that shattered her life many years before. She is petrified of both the proposal she doesn’t really want (but feels obligated to accept), and totally terrified of being on the ocean. And, of course, Murphy’s Law strikes and the boat she’s on goes down in a sudden storm. Her worst nightmare, drowning…. perfect ending to a difficult day. However, Macy wakes up and finds herself, not dead, but in a cave on a little island surrounded by water and rock walls. Her day is looking up now until she realizes that Camrin isn’t with her and she hears a sound from the darkest part of the cave. She’s not alone, but she’s pretty sure that it’s not Camrin in the back there. A being emerges from the water with a relatively human upper body that leads to a lower body of thick tentacles. Okay, maybe she did die, or at least hit her head, but no, she’s alive and not imagining things. He speaks English, and his name is Jax. This story details the development of the relationship between Macy and Jax. It’s a sweet story, but also a bit sexy. I mean, tentacles! Need I say more? The story, while not erotica, does have some steamy sex scenes, but the plot is wonderfully crafted and the romance is swoon worthy. I especially love the origin story of the octopoid/kraken people. I’ll never look at an octopus the same way. It was an imaginative and enjoyable book!
My first thought was this is going to be so bad tentacle porny.
But OMG this book ROCKS!
This author has a way with words, she can draw you a picture. This world she creates is so detailed, so plausible it's Fantastic! And there's no (or very little for some people) creep tentacle porny stuff happening really at all. The way the author builds up the H/h relationship so gradually from just their curiosity is totally relatable.
As much as I thought I'd hate this, read it as a joke... I loved it! I'm looking forward to book 2.
